ArtefactUSA was begun on San Juan Island, Washington, in 1996 by two partners. It grew quickly with excellent product designs and marketing.
As time went by, one of the partners decided he needed to return to his roots in New England and the other partner had medical problems that forced the company to be sold.
Homer and Elizabeth Smith have been in the gift manufacturing business since 1991. When friends heard that ArtefactUSA was for sale, they immediately called Homer and said, "This business is perfect for you! You have to buy it!"
How could they refuse that kind of persuasion?? Homer and Elizabeth purchased the business in July 2003 and plan to continue in the artistic tradition begun 6 years earlier.
